Free SSL - text file to DNS

I have a free account and want to add SSL security for free.
So I am supposed to copy certain files within a created folder “acme-challenge” that is located within the folder “.well-known” in the root folder of WP (which is “htdoc”, if I am correct). This doesn’t seem to work.

Another method is doing it by DNS.
The manual says:

• Sign in to your domain host.
• Go to your domain’s DNS records. The page might be called something like DNS Management, Name Server Management, Control Panel, or Advanced Settings. Select the option to add a new record.
• For the record type, select TXT
