Is an upgrade to premium service required to install apps from the control panel. Logging, network statistics etc.?

Softaculous installer is available for free in the control panel.
Statistics are available for free in the control panel, but they are pretty basic. To get more advanced statistics, you can upgrade to premium. (If you want free user analytics, you can use Google Analytics for free.)
