You might try unzipping the file, save it to your computer, then upload the unzipped file(s) with FTP

Hi there,
Unzip the files in your local computer and use a ftp client to upload the unzipped files
As many have said, The web ftp client is best for editing & small uploads, it has proven to be awful when unzipping files online.
