How do I write a htaccess file in the htdocs folder of my sub-domain?

I have followed the instructions on what to put in the .htacess file but I get the following error:

This site can’t provide a secure connection

Yep, done all that. Cert showing as correctly installed.

Where is it showing that? Your website does not have it installed correctly yet.

I checked your domain but no SSL certificate appears to be installed on it. I do see you’ve got a certificate from GoGetSSL. Could you please try installing that?

Problem solved. I was under the impression that a certificate for the main domain also covered sub-domains. It appears this is not so. A new certificate for the sub-domain and everything works fine.
