Unable to install Updraft Plus

I am using free hosting and trying to install Updraft Plus on my wordpress website but each time I get this error:

Unpacking the package…

Installing the plugin…

The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

I also tried installing Jetpack and get the same problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to upload bigger plugins via FTP. The instructions can be found here.
However, I don’t recommend to install backup plugins here, because of the file size limit of 10 MBs and the maximum execution time of 20 seconds.

How would you recommend backing up a Wordpress website then? I’m quite new with all these…

On this hosting it’s impossible to backup on the htdocs the website, but you may download the WordPress files from there on your computer and with phpMyAdmin export the database as a SQL file.
