Unable to upload Softaculous WP backup to the backup folder via FTP

My task is to move Softaculous Wordpress backup from my old host to InfinityFree. This is possible by making backup on old host and uploading it to the new host and restoring it on the new host. I have downloaded the backup from my old host. Now trying to upload it to InfinityFree.

http://www.softaculous.com/docs/How_to_Restore_a_Backup_on_a_New_Server

According to above article below it must be uploaded to /softaculous_backups. I have successfully logged in to the FTP with FileZilla but when I copy the file the transfer is in progress but the file never appears in that folder. The folder permission as are 0711.

http://www.filepermissions.com/file-permission/0711
http://www.filepermissions.com/file-permission/0755

When I copy file to /htdocs the file will appear. Permissions are 0755. I have tried to upload the backup file using VistaPanel/cPanel Online File Manager and File Manager on the InfinityFree Account page but the file has never appeared.

Anyone experienced this before?

How to upload the backup?

I’m not very familiar with the Softaculous backup system, and I’m not sure you can use it here in the first place.

The most reliable way to move a WordPress site is the official method, documented here: Moving WordPress « WordPress Codex . It doesn’t use any plugins, installers and the like, just some database access and an FTP connection. Simple and reliable.

Thank you for your response. I have came across the link you have provided earlier and actually I do find it quite confusing so I prefer using the Softacolous first. Your name reads as ‘admin’ does that mean that you are administration here at InfinityFree or is it just a nickname.

What’s stopping me in make the easier (for me) backup is that I can’t FTP copy the backup file to /softaculous_backups - the file transfers but it doesn’t appear. If you are familiar with InfniityFree can you please suggest way to become able to copy files to this location.

This alone will help me very to move forward in the backup.

I am the owner of InfinityFree ;).

I don’t think you can restore backups through Softaculous here. You could try other WordPress backup or export tools (there are plenty of plugins for that), but I can’t guarantee you’ll have more success with them. Especially with bigger websites, the official Moving WordPress method is by far the most reliable way to move sites.

Wow that’s amazing - so you are admin for real.

Let me just thank you Admin for the amazing service your InfinityFree gives. I looked at many and you are the best! One of the reasons is definitely that you have Softaculous as part of your control panel. It makes installation as well as backups a breeze. Anyway thanks for your feedback on my questions. I will take a look at some plugins. Since you are admin and in case anyone else might need this information - this is how to restore backups in Softaculous if anyone needs
