Hello, what does vol mean in CPanel? For example, I see vol5_1
All free hosting websites are hosted on a clustered system. Everything is linked together.
Your website files are stored on a cloud file system. This means that if a single server goes down, your website can easily be brought up on another server with very little downtime.
This storage system is segmented into separate volumes. I’m not entirely sure why this segmentation exists with the current storage system (it might be a remnant of the previous storage system). These volumes seem to be loosely correlated to the website IP addresses.
In some situations, the hosting volume can be considered similar to a server, but they are definitely not the same. Saying “my website doesn’t work because I’m on volume X” may refer to something completely unrelated.
