“There has been a critical error on this website.”
Was doing a WordPress upgrade from 5.8.3 to 5.9 via the Upgrade button presented, and all went well, but seemed to stick on “Copying files” step. Now I get this error.

Best way to recover?
Thanks.

Thanks, Greenreader9.
After spending some time with that readme file and failing, then the manual way, and failing, then my own attempts at FTP to get all but my content replaced… and failing, it turns out all I had to do was to use the Control Panel to go to the Softaculous installer, and go to WordPress and then upgrade from 5.8.3 to 5.9 there… and it accomplished all that in under 2 minutes.

And Presto - the site became workable again, and on the new version WordPress 5.9.

What I learned is to do the WordPress upgrades through Softaculous rather than on the Admin of WordPress. So much better and faster. Thanks, though, as you gave me some standard ideas… but I found a better way. Hopefully this learning will help someone else.
