You can just use the Free SSL tool and enter your subdomain.
Then when adding the records, at the end of the record name, put .subdomain.

What is the use of reading when you dun even do it?
The article has list out the steps to be taken in order to get SSL for free.

If you want to get an SSL certificate for a subdomain of your own domain, you can just create it as a Custom Domain in the client area. The Subdomain option there is only for free subdomains.
