Registering a custom sub-domain

Before we start, I have not created the website yet…

I want to ask how I would create a website with a custom subdomain. How would I point a subdomain with Cloudflare to epizy nameservers? I was testing and I put a random subdomain in create account section and it seemed to work. I am just requesting guidance to point the nameservers.

CNAME or A record. However, you need to hv hosting acct first

Can you go in-depth? Also, I do have a hosting account, but not a website account.
